PAINT THE CITY PINK 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY CAMPAIGN march 8-apri

“Well Behaved Women - Seldom Make History”

Black women in media historically have been working “woke, leading innovation, nuancing programming, creating platforms and spearheading the charge to diversify the national and global media landscape for not only women of color, but women in general.

Boston’s urban media golden era has a unique history anchored in the nostalgic legacy of the city’s flagship Black radio station, WILD AM. For the majority of its existence, where sunrise to sunset on an AM dial was a way of life, the capital city’s urban media beacon was low in frequency, but priceless in power. It had the heart of the Black community and kept the pulse of its people vibrating. Countless commercial radio executives since, have struggled to figure out the formula for a successful sustainable commercial urban radio venture in Boston.

It Was All A Dream

In 2018 the women of WWOC Media recognized that radio alone wasn’t enough to satisfy the void.  Given how urban Boston was now consuming media, experiencing content and accessing technology, we knew what was needed was bigger than radio alone.  Boston needed options, outlets, and true support. After years of being on the roster; or coaching the team, we decided why not own the franchise and define our own lane and WWOC Media Was born.

WWOC Media is owned and operated primarily by a leadership team of Black Women with a combined more than 50 years experience in the fields of media communications, sales and marketing, entertainment and passionately specializing in Black radio.

We’re entrepreneurs - a collaboration that allows each of our skill sets to come together to not only build WWOC Media, but build stronger communities, by stewarding opportunities that circulate dollars back to and through our communities.

It wasn’t that easy. And hasn’t come without struggle. After halted progress and a stunted soft launch in 2020 generated by COVID-19 Pandemic, Our flagship digital station platforms WWOC Radio and WWOC Podcasting officially launched as of March 2022 but have operated with solid community IMPACT, despite without SPACE or a HOME in our first official year of existence.

As we celebrate our ONE-year anniversary this Women’s History Month, OUR trailblazing triple threat has designed the blueprint for a budding media conglomerate that is set to transcend Boston’s Urban digital revolution of the past decade and give Black Boston A Media Network we can all call home.  But We Need Your Help!

Woke Women of Color Media Network is creating a world for our audience where: “Black Girl Magic and Black Boy Joy are more than just hashtags in popular culture; Wakanda is a way of life, Hillman College is on Malcolm X Boulevard and  Ayanna Pressley is President.   It’s a movement toward change in Boston (and beyond) And its women led.

We Hope you will join the #WAKEUPWOKE Movement in honor of Women’s History Month for our ONE-year anniversary and help us RAISE $25,000 so we can #PAINTTHECITYPINK!
